Pool Furniture Types
Garden furniture, also known as patio or pool furniture, is specifically designed for use in the outdoors. It's usually made of weather-resistant material and sold in an outdoor dining set that includes an outdoor table, four or six chairs, and sometimes an outdoor umbrella. Patio umbrellas are made to fit through a hole in the center of a table and then secured in a base. Long pool chairs, also called pool lounge chairs, are common, and sometimes homeowners also invest in a patio heater which can run on butane or propane, and let people enjoy cool spring and fall nights outdoors. Outdoor pool furniture comes in a variety of materials, including metal, vinyl, plastic, treated woods, and fabric such as nylon. Plastic pool furniture is naturally waterproof, so it can be left outdoors all year. Rain water will collect in nooks and crannies, though, and furniture will get dirty, so a good wipe-down with a wet rag and mild detergent will be in order at the beginning of the summer season. Teak pool furniture, if treated with a sealant, can also be left outdoors year-round. Teak pool furniture is a commonly used material for outdoor furniture, and its natural silica makes it resistant to fungal decay, rot, and warping. It is also acid- and fire-resistant. | ![]() |
Aluminum pool furniture is a wise choice as it is robust and long-lasting. Make sure to clean suntan lotion and perspiration from the aluminum frame as it can, over time, eat away at the powder coating on the metal.
One classic example of outdoor pool furniture is the Adirondack chair, which first came into popular use in the early 1900s. Made of wood with a round back and a contoured seat, the chair also features wide, comfortable armrests. The back and seat are set at a slant to make the chair not just attractive, but also comfortable.
The Adirondack style is also often used for outdoor loveseats and outdoor gliders. Adirondack chairs are an excellent option if there isn't room for a table, as the wide armrests are perfect drink holders.
