Pool Safety First
Post regulations for safe use of outdoor pool furniture, pool floats, and pool toys. Pushing, back flips, back dives, and running should be prohibited. Children should always be supervised by adults and not allowed to use commercial pool furniture as toys.
Lifeguards must run surveillance from one side of the pool to the other and back in a 30-second period. Within 10 seconds, they must assess a potential victim's distress and determine whether to intervene; they must intervene within 20 seconds. Post times when there is no lifeguard on duty, when guests swim at their own risk, and age limitations. Clearly mark diving areas.
Pool toys and pool floats should be safely stored out of the water when not in use. Outdoor pool furniture should not be positioned close to the edge of the pool where children can sit and accidentally fall in the water. Commercial pool furniture and pool floats with cup holders safely secure beverages; prohibit use of glass containers within the pool area.
